Juniata Wins in Overtime Against Goucher

TOWSON, Md.- The Juniata College women's soccer team won their first conference game of the season 3-2 against Goucher College in overtime.

Brooke Rotheram (Harrisburg, Pa./ Central Dauphin East) scored two goals for the Eagles, both assisted by Aubrie Christensen (Suwanee, Ga./ Manheim Township) in the first half. The Gophers battled back to score two of their own, leaving the teams tied up at 2-2. With both sides being unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game, the Eagles and Gophers went into overtime. In the fourth minute of OT play, Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson,N.Y./ Croton-Harmon) scored the winning goal off a rebounded save into an open net and was assisted by Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa./ Line Mountain).

"Hard fought and good result against a strong opponent on a very warm late September day. Terrific job by our defensive core and great effort by senior Elisabeth Hamme (Lebanon, Pa./ Cedar Crest) who was called into action after fellow senior Nicole Saulnier (Middletown, N.J./ Middletown South) went down with an injury. Kudos to freshman Meadow Walshaw-Wertz and senior Maggie Pozenel for their effort and composure in finishing the game winning goal, " said head coach Scott McKensie post-match.

Although Goucher came out on top with 18 total shots, the Eagles still overpowered them in the end.

The Eagles play again at home against St. Vincent College Tuesday, September 26th at 7:30.
