Kopacz, Altenberg Each Net One As Eagles Win at Mount Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. - Amanda Kopacz (Green Brook, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) and Carly Altenberg (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) each tallied their first career goal to spark the Juniata women's soccer team 2-0 victory at Mount Aloysius College, Tuesday afternoon.

Kopacz and Altenberg each scored once while Aubrie Christensen (Suwanee, Ga./Manheim Township) had an assist. Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep.) and Shannon Kriz (Breinigsville, Pa./ Parkland) combined for a shutout.

"We got terrific goals from Amanda Kopacz and Carly Altenberg as well as a great defensive effort from the entire team. It was a good team win,"" said head coach Scott McKenzie post-match.

The game started off with neither team taking a shot in the opening eight minutes, until the Mounties took the first shot of the game, which went wide. Minutes later, Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton-Harmon) got a shot off on frame but the keeper was equal to it.

In the 22nd minute, Christensen played in a corner that Kopacz nodded home to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Juniata put heavy pressure on the Mounties defense, firing 10 more shots the rest of the half but they had to settle for a 1-0 lead at half time.

In the opening 15 minutes of the second half, Mount Aloysius got a few shots on the Eagle net and forced Leonard into making a save. Juniata locked it down for the final 30 minutes, only allowed one more shot the rest of the way.

In the 80th minute, Altenberg netted her first career goal when she got to a loose ball and shot it into the top right corner.

Juniata held a 22-7 edge in shots and a 9-2 edge in corners.

The Eagles will host Allegheny, Saturday at 1:00.
