Eagles Fall in OT at Hood

Eagles Fall in OT at Hood

FREDERICK, MD - The Juniata College women's soccer team suffered a tough, 2-1, overtime loss to Hood, Wednesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field.

Both teams had opportunities in the first forty minutes of the half, but neither could quite finish. Both teams would find the mark right before the half ended. The Eagles broke through first with less than three minutes on the clock when Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa./Line Mountain) played a ball over the defense that Brooke Rotheram (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) volleyed in just inside the far post to make it 1-0.

A little over a minute later, Hood tied it at 1-1 right before halftime via a shot from outside the box. The first half was tightly contested, with the Eagles holding a narrow 8-7 edge in shots. The second half Juniata controlled more of the ball and held a 9-5 edge in shots. The Eagles got three shots off in the final five and a half minutes, one was blocked before the the final two were stopped by the keeper which sent the game into overtime.

Two minutes into the first overtime, the Blazers scored when one of their midfielders got free at the back post and finished to end the game. Juniata held a 14-4 edge in corner kicks and a 17-13 edge in shots.

After the game, head coach Scott McKenzie discussed the team's performance. "We controlled the ball but played too slowly to be dangerous. We strayed from our game plan and put ourselves in positions that did not help us. We need to regroup and play with more discipline on Saturday."

The Eagles return to action at home against King's, Saturday at 5:00.
