Scranton Keeps Juniata Off the Board

THE STORY: Scranton shutout Juniata's women's soccer team 3-0, putting Juniata at 0-5 in the Landmark Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Scranton took control early with three shots in the first five minutes of play. Scranton got passed the Eagles in the 11th minute, scoring the first goal of the game. Aubrie Christensen (Suwanee, Ga./Manheim Township) took two shots on goal, which ended up being the only two shots for Juniata in the first half.

The Royals scored two more times at the end of the half, extending their lead of Juniata to 3-0. 

In the second half, the Eagles kept the Royals scoreless. However, the Royals kept the Eagles scoreless as well.

INSIDE THE BOX: Scranton outshot Juniata 16-5, as the Eagles were held to two shot opportunities in the first half and three in the second. Christensen led the offense with three shots, two on goal. Taylor Garraffa (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Alexis Ulrich (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) also marked shots.

The Royals took seven corner kicks, while Juniata did not take any. The third goal of the game for Scranton was a header shot off immediately after a corner kick. 

BETWEEN THE POSTS: Senior goalkeeper Erin Mueller (Bedford, Pa./Bedford) saved six shots of the nine shots on goal. Five of her six saves occurred in the first half of play.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Both women's and men's soccer will return home to face Moravian on Saturday, Oct. 22, on their senior day. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men play at 3:30 p.m.
