Eagles Rally Falls Short Against Catholic

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's soccer team struck in the 74th minute to trim Catholic's lead but the Cardinals held on to take a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon.

The leading goal-scorer of the Landmark Conference, Lindsay Aleman, got the Cardinals ahead in the 30th minute of the game with her 17th goal of the season.

Juniata had many opportunities in the first half but the Catholic defense managed to shut them down each time.

The Cardinals went up 2-0 when Aleman found Taylor Pisk in the 59th minute.

The Eagles continued to play tough and started creating more opportunities for themselves.

In the 74th minute, Juniata got the offensive push they were waiting for from freshman Kate Bompiani (Red Lion, PA / Eastern York). Bompiani drilled a shot into the top shelf of the goal to notch her first collegiate goal and put the Eagles within one goal of the equalizer.

Catholic tightened up their play for the remainder of the game to hold off the Eagles. The Cardinals are undefeated in the Landmark Conference this season.

Haley Briggs (Hanover, PA / South Western) was between the posts for the Eagles and recorded six saves.

Before the match, Juniata honored their senior class. The Eagles lose Briggs, Emily Green (Maytown, PA / Donegal), Michaela Lacek (New Tripoli, PA / Northwestern) and Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield Central) as they prepare for the 2016-17 season.
