Eagles Defeated in Final Moments of 2OT by Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, PA – As the second overtime period was coming to a close, the Susquehanna Crusaders drilled a shot to the far left post to take a 1-0 victory over the Juniata women's soccer team Wednesday night. The loss drops the Eagles to 5-7-1 on the season and 1-3 in Landmark Conference play.

Juniata, Drew, Goucher, Moravian and Susquehanna are now all tied in fourth place in conference standings. The Eagles still have Elizabethtown (3-1 Landmark), Goucher and Catholic (4-0 Landmark) left to play as they make a push for the postseason.

In the final two minutes of regulation, Juniata pushed to score the game-winner. A shot from Aubrie Christensen (Litiz, PA / Manheim Township) would be blocked and a header from Kristin Racis (Womelsdorf, PA / Conrad Weisler) was high. The Crusaders responded with two efforts of their own but Juniata defended against the corner and Susquehanna's shot would go high to send the conference foes into overtime.

Juniata and Susquehanna would play pretty even in the first overtime period. The Crusaders led with a 4-3 advantage in shots but Juniata held a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The second overtime period was heading into its final minute and a half when Susquehanna's Grayclynn Juckes drilled a shot into the lower left corner to sink the game-winner.

The Crusaders finished with a 16-13 advantage in total shots against Juniata and just edged out the Eagles in shots on goal 8-7.

Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD / Maryvale Prep) recorded seven saves against the Crusaders.

Christensen recorded four shots, two on frame. Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield Central) followed with each of her two shots being on goal. Emily Green (Maytown, PA / Donegal), Michaela Lacek (New Tripoli, PA / Northwestern) and Kristen Behrens (Jonestown, PA / Lebanon Catholic) each picked up a shot on goal for Juniata.

The Eagles continue conference play Sat. Oct. 17 against the Elizabethtown Blue Jays at 3:30pm on Winton Hill Field.
