Late Goals from Monarchs Result in Eagles' Loss

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's soccer team took an early lead over King's College (PA) but the Monarchs scored two goals in the final minutes of the game to take the victory from the Eagles. Juniata is now 5-5-1 on the season.

The Eagles' goal came from Aubrie Christensen (Litiz, PA / Manheim Township) in the 10th minute mark of the game. The Monarchs' keeper was out of position and Christensen found the back of the open net to earn her first goal of the season.

Shortly after Christensen's goal put the Eagles up 1-0, King's began to push towards Juniata keeper Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD / Maryvale Prep). Leonard made a huge save for Juniata when she leaped up to the crossbar to make the save and gained control of the rebound before the Monarchs had a chance to get to the ball again. She finished the game with four saves.

The Eagles finished the half with a dominating 12-6 advantage in shots, with five on frame.

Once the second half began, King's brought the aggression. By the end of the game, they would cut Juniata's advantage in shots to 14-13.

In goal for Juniata in the second half was junior keeper Erin Mueller (Bedford, PA / Bedford). Mueller recorded three saves in the half.

The Monarchs' held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks, which resulted in the equalizing goal. With just over eight minutes remaining, King's got the goal to tie the game up at one. Just minutes later, the Monarchs' would find the back of the net again to record the game-winner.

Juniata had many opportunities to extend their lead over King's before the equalizer was scored. There was confusion in front of the Monarchs' goal towards the end of the first half but the King's defense would manage to clear away shots from Jessica Zavadak (Lebanon, PA / Cedar Crest) and Caroline Braas (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township)

One of Juniata's best chances in the second half came from Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY / Croton-Harmon). Pozenel was racing to the goal drilled a shot that was just inches too high and rebounded off the crossbar.
