MADISON, NJ – The Juniata women's soccer team (4-3-1, 1-0 Landmark) opened up Landmark Conference play with a 1-0 victory over the Drew Rangers Saturday afternoon.

"We know that playing well on the road is important," head coach Scott McKenzie said. "Drew is a very good team. We're happy with the result and look to continue with the momentum."

The Eagles are now 2-2-1 on the road.

Devin Kos (Bellefonte, PA / Bellefonte Area) scored her first goal of the season against Drew off an assist from Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY / Croton-Harmon). Pozenel got the ball, beat out a Rangers' defender and slotted the ball to Kos, who was waiting by the back post. The goal gave Juniata the lead early in the second half.

Juniata's defense proved resilient against Drew. The Eagles prevented the Rangers from taking a shot in the first half and fended off eight shots in the second. Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD / Maryvale Prep) was between the posts for Juniata and recorded four saves in the match. This is Leonard's third shutout of the season. She has now played over 300 consecutive minutes in goal without allowing a shot.

"Kerry played very well and communicated well with the defense," McKenzie said. "Our defense held Drew shot-less in the first half."

The Eagles held a 13-8 advantage in total shots of the Rangers.

Juniata returns home to face the Bearcats of St. Vincent Tues. Sept. 29 at 4:00pm on Winton Hill.
