Women's Soccer and Titans Battle to Nil-Nil Tie in 2OT

Women's Soccer and Titans Battle to Nil-Nil Tie in 2OT

WESTMINSTER, PA – The Juniata women's soccer team recorded their first tie of the season nil-nil through double overtime against the Westminster Titans Saturday afternoon.

"Two good teams played for 110 minutes today and neither team deserved to lose," head coach Scott McKenzie said. "Both teams had opportunities to win the game in overtime."

Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD / Maryvale Prep.) held strong in goal for the Eagles, recording eleven saves through 120 minutes of play. Leonard has played over 200 minutes of consecutive shut out play for Juniata this week.

"Leonard played well," McKenzie said. "She made one full-extension diving save as the second half was closing to keep the game tied. They (Westminster) put us under pressure all game."

The Titans held a 19-7 advantage in total shots over the Eagles. Juniata's defensive core did a great job of containing the Titans' attack and responding to the pressure they created.

"It was an exciting and well-played match," McKenzie said. "Neither team was playing for a tie."

Michaela Lacek (New Tripoli, PA / Northwestern) nearly won the game for the Eagles in the second OT but Westminster's keeper, Laura Page, would record the save.

Juniata is now 3-2-1 on the season as they prepare for their next game on the road against York (PA) Wed. Sept. 23 at 4PM.
