Women's Soccer Dominates Mt. Aloysius in 2-0 Win

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's soccer team's leading goal-scorers, Anna Kauffman (Palmyra, PA / Palmyra Area) and Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield Central), each found the back of the net on the way to the Eagles' 2-0 win over Mt. Aloysius Thursday afternoon.

Kauffman now has five goals on the season and Rhodes has four. The Eagles total 11 goals so far this season. Last year, they finished the season with 18 total goals.

Rhodes struck first in the first half of the game. Rhodes drove up the field, took on the Mt. Aloysius keeper one-on-one and sank the shot in the left side to give Juniata a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute of the game.

In the second half, Amanda Kopacz (Green Brook, NJ / Mt. St. Mary Academy) took a pass from Devin Kos (Bellefonte, PA / Bellefonte Area). Kopacz slotted the ball through Mt. Aloysius defenders to Aubrie Christensen (Litiz, PA / Manheim Township). Christensen took the shot but it would rebound off the post. Kauffman was following the shot and found the back of the net to put Juniata up 2-0.

"The second goal and the second half were more about being present in the moment," head coach Scott McKenzie said. "We played more simply and with more urgency to go forward. We created the environment in the second half."

The energy Juniata brought to the second half put the Mounties in their zone for the majority of the time. The Eagles held an 18-1 shot advantage in the second half alone. They will look to get those shots to be more on target as they move forward.

Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD / Maryvale Prep) recorded her first shutout of the season and second win between the posts.

Rhodes led the Eagles with four shots on goal, followed by Emily Green (Maytown, PA / Donegal) and Christensen at three.

Juniata finished the game with 13-1 advantage in shots on goal and 27-2 advantage in total shots.

The Eagles look to carry their two-game win streak to Westminster, PA Sat. Sept. 19 when they face the Westminster Titans at 1PM.
