Kauffman's Hat Trick Leads Eagles Past Warriors

Kauffman's Hat Trick Leads Eagles Past Warriors

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Freshman Anna Kauffman  (Palmyra, PA / Palmyra Area) led the Juniata women's soccer team with a hat trick against Lycoming to push the Eagles past the Warriors 4-2 Sunday afternoon. The win improves JC to 2-2 on the season.

Kauffman's first goal was the equalizer in the first half. She took the assist from Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield Central) to bury a shot into the left corner.

As time wound down in the first, Kauffman scored her second goal of the game. In the 40th minute mark, she took a one-timer from Maggie Pozenel (Croton-on-Hudson, NY / Croton-Harmon) and gave Juniata a 2-1 lead.

Lycoming shot the equalizer minutes into the second half.  The score would stand tied until just eleven minutes remained in regulation. Pozenel sank a shot into the upper right corner to make it 3-2 Juniata. This is Pozenel's second game-winning goal of the season.

The Eagles wasted no time giving themselves insurance as Kauffman responded with a goal off an assist from Devin Kos (Bellefonte, PA / Bellefonte Area)

Juniata finished with a 16-14 advantage in total shots and a 10-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Erin Mueller (Bedford, PA / Bedford) made the start between the posts for JC. The goalkeeper made fives saves to get the win over the Warriors, including a huge save on a penalty kick to keep the game tied at 2 in the second half.

"The emotional lift of the game came from Erin Mueller's outstanding saved penalty kick," head coach Scott McKenzie said. "There's incredible depth and talent on this team. We've had two different goalkeepers make two different penalty kick saves in two different games."

The Eagles return to Winton Hill Thurs. Sept. 17 to face Mt. Aloysius at 4:30pm.
