Women’s Soccer Holds off Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 in Home Finale

HUNTINGDON, PA- Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) scored twice for Juniata late in the second half as women's soccer defeated Pitt-Greensburg 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Winton Hill Field. It was the final home game of the season for the Eagles.

The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 in the first half despite Juniata leading in shots 6-2. The Eagles were the first to strike in the 53rd minute. Michaela Lacek (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern) found Shayna King (Easton, PA/Easton Area), who headed the ball into the back of the net, to give JC a 1-0 advantage. The lead would not last long as the Bobcats' Ashley Dickey scored to tie the contest up at 1-1.

The game seemed destined to head into an extra period but Brown would put an end to that as she scored her second goal of the season and her career with just over four minutes to play when Pitt-Greensburg goalkeeper Shannon Edwards came out to play the ball but Brown ran past her to score into the empty net to make it 2-1 in Juniata's favor. Brown was not done as she scored less than a minute later on an assist from Lauren Liacouras (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) to give the Eagle a comfortable 3-1 lead that it would not relinquish.

Juniata ended the contest with a 15-6 lead in shots with 10 of those coming on goal. The Bobcats led in corner kicks 4-3.

"After a lackluster first half, the team was able to regroup and play with the necessary passion in the second half to bring home the win," said head coach Scott McKenzie afterwards. "Congrats to Cheyenne on her great performance and her teammates for seeing the game to the end."

Erin Mueller (Bedford, PA/Bedford) started in goal for the Eagles but did not record a save. She was relieved by Haley Briggs (Hanover, PA/South Western) who had one save while surrendering just the one goal. Edwards had seven saves for the Bobcats.

The win improves Juniata's record to 6-9-2 overall. The Eagles will conclude their 2014 season in Washington, DC with a Landmark Conference matchup against first place Catholic on Saturday. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m.
