Lock’s Goal Enough for Eagles in 1-0 Victory Over Bearcats

LATROBE, PA- Freshman Lauren Lock (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata) scored her first career goal for the game-winner as the Juniata women's soccer team halted its three-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over St. Vincent on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 3-5-1 on the season while the Bearcats fall to 0-8.

The contest was scoreless heading into the 63rd minute of play. Fellow freshman Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock, PA/Tunkhannock) passed to Lock and she deposited the ball into the top left corner of the net for the score.

Another freshman, Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale Prep) picked up her third shutout of the season in the net as she turned away four St. Vincent shots. Her counterpart for the Bearcats, Meghan Lyden, had five saves.

The Bearcats finished with a slight lead in shots, 13-12, but the Eagles had six on goal to just four for St. Vincent. Both teams had three corner kicks apiece.

"It is good to be back in the win column in advance of our Landmark opener this weekend," said head coach Scott McKenzie after the game. Juniata will look to keep its winning streak going when it returns to Winton Hill Field to host Drew on Saturday afternoon. Game time will be at 3:30 p.m.
