Women’s Soccer Falls to Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA- The Juniata women's soccer team surrendered two early goals in the first half against Arcadia University and hung with the hosts until almost midway through the second half. The Knights added three goals within a 17-minute span in the second frame on its way to a 5-0 win on Saturday afternoon at the Arcadia Fall Classic.

 

Arcadia controlled the opening minutes of the first frame. The Knights' first goal came on a header off a corner kick at 4:28 and almost three minutes later, the hosts added a second score to take an early 2-0 lead.

 

The Eagles began to settle down and would rattle off seven shots within 11:18 minutes but had two blocked shots, three go wide of the net, and two saved by Knight goalie Veronica Willig. The score stood 2-0 at halftime.

 

The score remained 2-0 for almost 18 and half minutes of the second stanza. The Knights scored their third goal of the day in the 64th minute.  Arcadia added scores in the 73rd and 80th minute.

 

Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale Prep) had eight saves in goal for the Eagles. Willig picked up the win for the Knights with three saves. Her replacement Natalie Toner had two saves.

 

The Eagle resume play in the consolation game at 1 p.m against DeSales. The Bulldogs tied Rosemont 0-0 in the earlier game but the Ravens advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4.
