TOWSON, MD – The Landmark Conference
announced its 2014 Women’s Soccer Preseason Poll on
Wednesday. The Juniata Eagles came in sixth with a total of 22
points and just three points away from fifth-place Moravian
(25).
Conference newcomers Elizabethtown College secured four first
place votes and 59 total points to lead the poll. The University of
Scranton was picked second with one first place vote and 46 points
while the 2013 champion, Drew University, was voted third with 42
points and two first-place votes. Catholic University rounds out
the top half of the poll with the final first-place vote and 40
points. Goucher College (7-9-2, 2-3-1) earned the seventh spot with
15 points and Susquehanna University (1-14-2, 0-6) wraps up the
poll in eighth with seven points.
The Eagles are coming off a record-breaking 2013 campaign that
saw them set a new program record for wins in a season (14), goals
in a season (55), and tied the best marks for longest unbeaten
streak (7) and fewest losses (6). With a 4-2 record in the Landmark
Conference regular season, Juniata finished the year second in the
league and qualified for the postseason tournament for just the
fourth time in program history and the first time since 2010. After
the Eagles fell to the eventual conference champion Rangers, they
earned a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
South Tournament – just the second ECAC bid for the
program.
Juniata begins its 2014 season on August 30th
against Capital University at 4 p.m. at Winton Hill Field. The
Crusaders, ranked #14 in the NSCAA Preseason Poll, ended last
season with a final record of 19-5-2 and advanced to the NCAA Final
Four.
