HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Midfielder Emily Green (Marietta, Pa. / Donegal) has played a crucial role in the success of the Juniata College women's soccer team over the past year. She finished the 2013 season fourth on the team for goals scored and competed in all 20 games.
Green grew up in a small town, only a half hour from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. During her college search, she decided that she wanted to stay within her comfort zone and attend a school with a similar atmosphere as her hometown. She learned about Juniata in a letter that head coach Scott McKenzie wrote and became intrigued by what the college had to offer.
It was the visit to campus that sold Green on attending. She fell in love with the friendly culture of the campus and found no difficulty in picturing herself at Juniata for four years. Something that placed Juniata ahead of the numerous other schools for Green was the emphasis that faculty put on being a student-athlete.
"A lot of the other colleges I looked at focused on the importance of academics only," said Green. "But it didn't seem the only priority at Juniata – you could do both."
Not only did Juniata fit her academic needs, but it met her soccer needs as well. Playing soccer at the NCAA Division III level was a perfect fit for Green. Between the potential playing time and the friendliness of her future teammates, Green saw herself fitting in on the team right away, which was important.
Growing up in an athletic family, she was signed up for her first soccer youth league at the age of three. Green used to run off the field to take naps during games and practices, but as she grew older, she was able to become more serious. Along with soccer, Green also tried every sport she could - she participated in swimming, softball, basketball, cheerleading, and gymnastics.
"Soccer was the first sport I ever played," said Green. "I love the competitiveness and intensity, and I fell in love with it almost immediately."
Green is currently studying psychology and plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in therapy. She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a pending member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
When asked what her favorite part of becoming a Division III student-athlete was, she replied with "your team becomes your family."

Nike sneakers and any type of dress boots.
Favorite item in your dorm room?
My memory foam mattress pad.
One thing you couldn't go a day without?
Caffeine.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Martin Luther King Jr. or Lionel Messi.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Italy or somewhere in Sicily.
If you could be any animal (car, vegetable, etc.), what would you be and why?
A lion because they are fast and on the top of the food chain. They are really pretty and their eyes are beautiful.
If you could be an Olympic athlete (in anything other than your sport) what would it be?
I would be a figure skater. I like to get all fancy and I love to dance.
Favorite class at JC?
The acting class I took this fall. It was so different and out of my comfort zone.
Favorite place in Huntingdon?
Sheetz, because I love slushies.
Favorite Juniata Tradition?
Pig Roast.
Favorite athletic experience at JC?
So far my favorite experience is watching how far Juniata Women's Soccer has grown since my freshman year. We accomplished so much within a year
If you could trade places with one JC athlete, who would it be and why?
Rachelle Wiegand on the women's volleyball team. Even though I do not know her very well, she seems to have her life together and she is a great athlete.
