Total team effort helps women’s soccer dominate Moravian College 4-1

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- The Juniata College women's soccer team hosted Landmark Conference foe Moravian College on Oct. 2 at Winton Hill Field. Juniata scoring came from all over the roster and was only interrupted once by the Greyhounds, for a final score of 4-1.

Seventeen minutes into the game, Elizabethtown forward Paige Minka scored on an unassisted goal. Juniata reacted with intensity, and Erin Eddinger (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) had a flawless unassisted finish from outside the 18 yard-line. The competition was neck and neck until Caitlin Bigelow (La Mesa, Calif./The Academy of Our Lady of Peace) responded with a second goal with an assist from freshman Jenna Rodrigue (Manchester, CT./Manchester) in the 60th minute.

There was plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams in the first few minutes of the match.  Neither team would let up in the last thirty minutes of the second half.

Katie Young (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) had an outstanding game using her speed and aggressive style of play to defend the Blue Jays. The defensive position is a drastic change from her position as forward in her previous three years on the team.

Kristen Penska (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) saw all 90 minutes of the match, making five saves for the Eagles. Jess Manchak defended the goals for the Blue Jays, making four saves in her 90 minutes of play.

Juniata is back on their own turf this week on Tuesday, Sept. 14, when they take on Lycoming College at 4:30 p.m.
