Three second half goals help secure Catholic’s victory in women’s soccer

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A second half surge had Catholic University come away with a 4-0 victory over the Juniata College women's soccer team in Washington, D.C., on Saturday afternoon. 

The Cardinals, ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region according to the adidas/NSCAA rankings, scored three times in the second half to raise their Landmark Conference record to 2-0, 12-1 overall.

Mary McGann scored 33:25 into the match, finishing a corner kick after a scramble in front of the net. Diana Spadaro, Courtney Orgill and Kelly Donnelly all scored a goal each in the second half to put the game at 4-0. Michelle Spadaro recorded two assists in the contest. 

Juniata fell to 4-9-0 overall, 1-2 in the Landmark Conference, with the loss. Laura Auster-Gusman (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Country Day) played all 90 minutes in goal, stopping three shots. Tere Rossi also played all 90 minutes for Catholic, turning away two shots. 

Lauren Brant (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) had two shots on goal for the Eagles. Juniata was outshot 18-4, and out cornered 9-2.

The team returns to the pitch on Oct. 14 when it takes on Frostburg State University on Winton Hill Field at 4 p.m.
