HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team hung tough but ultimately fell to visiting Moravian University, 18-9, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
Peyton Goodrich scored three goals, picked up three ground balls, and scooped up four draw controls, along with causing two turnovers. Kyndall Yeager tallied two goals, an assist, and two draw controls. Kelliann Drummond netted two goals, while Shayla Lapp added a goal, a ground ball, and a draw control. Grace Gibbs scored once with three ground balls, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Shannon Para tacked on two assists and three groundballs. Skyler Stevens chipped in with an assist, while Tess Ledeboer had three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Drummond scored the opening goal of the game, coming from behind the goal to beat the keeper four minutes into the game. The Greyhounds found the back of the Eagle net three times before Gibbs got one back for the Eagles to bring JC within one. Moravian scored the final goal of the quarter as the Eagles trailed by two, 4-2.
The second quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with Drummond scoring off a Para assist, Yeager netting twice, and Para finding Goodrich for the final goal of the half, but the Eagles ultimately trailed 9-6 at the half.
A dominant Greyhound third quarter saw the Eagles trailing 14-7 after three, as Lapp scored the lone JC goal off a pass from Stevens. Moravian held a 15-2 edge in shots in the third, by far their biggest advantage in shots.
The Greyhounds outscored JC 4-2 in the fourth to take the win. The visitors held a 44-23 edge in shots and caused issues with the Juniata clear as the Eagles went 16-30.
Prior to today's game, the women's lacrosse team's senior members were recognized for Senior Day.
Juniata will host Lancaster Bible in their final home game of the year Wednesday at 4:00.
