Eagles Cruise Past Cougars on Senior Night

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-6 victory over Chatham University on senior night at Gibbel Stadium.

The Eagles struck first with two goals about eight minutes from each other. A goal from Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick) on a free position and one from Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla. / South Fork) put the Eagles up, 2-0. A minute later, Chatham answered back to cut the score in half at 2-1. The teams traded goals as Juniata added two more; another from Danchenko and one from Paige Riker (Sussex, N.J. / Vernon Township) assisted by Sara Deetz (Gloucester City, N.J. / Gloucester City) to put them up, 4-1. At the 14 minute mark, the Cougars added another goal after a free position. 

With the score, 4-2 and the Eagles a woman up, Andrea Insalaco (Woodlyn, Pa. / Ridley) assisted Deetz on Juniata's fifth goal of the game. Shortly after, Chatham tacked on another goal to put them within two. Juniata went on to score the next three goals. With eight minutes left to play in the first half, Danchenko made a diving play to the goal to extend the Eagles lead, 6-3. Riker added another goal for JC and was assisted by Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) on the play. Bertrando was given another free position shot to close the first half for the Ealges. Chatham got off another goal with a minute left to play. Juniata led, 8-4 at the half. 

The Eagles opened up the second half scoring eight in the first ten minutes. Bertrando tallied three, Natalie Gibson (Annapolis, Md. / Broadneck) added four, and Riker added another to lead 16-4. With 17 minutes left to play, Chatham scored. Two more goals from Bertrando and another one from Riker put the Eagles up, 19-5. With two minutes left to play, Chatham scored the final goal of the game falling, 19-6 to the Eagles. 

Juniata will travel to Elizabethtown this Saturday for a Landmark game starting at 1:00PM.
