HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team suffered an 11-1 defeat at the hands of visiting Washington and Jefferson in the first ever home opener, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

Arielle Danchenko (Palm City, Fla./South Fork HS) scored the lone goal for the Eagles and won three draw controls. Isabella Medaris (Monroe, Conn./Masulk) made 12 saves in goal. Mina Wilt (Wells Tannery, Pa./Forbes Road) caused six turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Sara Deetz (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) caused three turnovers and picked up four groundballs.

The Presidents scored the first five goals of the game over the opening 15 minutes. Danchenko got one back for Juniata, but W&J continued to roll as they netted four more before halftime as JC trailed 9-1 at the break.

Juniata defense figured some things out in the second half as they limited the Presidents to two second half goals. Medaris played a large part in that as she notched 11 saves in the second half.

"We had trouble finding the back of the net  today but we worked hard for 60 minutes and tightened up our defense in the second half," stated head coach Naomi Radio after the game. "Bella did a great job in goal."

Juniata returns to action Wednesday against St. Vincent at 4:00.
