Men's and Women's Golf to Open Varsity Play This Weekend

The Juniata College men's and women's golf teams will open varsity play at the Penn State Altoona Invitational, Saturday starting at 12:30.

It will mark a return to action for the men's program after over 20 years. Men's golf was previously a varsity program at Juniata from 1947-1994. Juniata won three conference championships when it competed in the Middle Atlantic Conference. This will be the inaugural season for the women's team

Head coach Matt Baer started in the spring of last year, leading both teams through a year and half of competition at the club level before entering varsity play this Saturday. The men's side is predominantly made up of men from the club team. Both rosters are comprised of students who were already on campus and some who were recruited.

"I'm excited to get to start our varsity competion this weekend, " said head coach Baer. " "Both teams are excited to get out on the course and compete this weekend."

Saturday the teams will co-host with Penn St. Altoona at the Sinking Valley Country Club while Sunday will be played at the Summit Country Club.
