Balanced Attack Lifts Eagles Past Greyhounds on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team held on for a 57-52 win on Senior Day over visiting Moravian University Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The Greyhounds converted two jump shots before Bri Bodtorf drew a foul and made both her foul shots to get the Eagles on the board. Kynnedy Miller followed suit with two free throws of her own to bring JC even in the first two minutes. Sarah Betts swished a three from the top of the key off a pass from Miller for the first Eagle field goal of the game as JC led 7-5. Emily McCann drove inside and flipped it back out to Deja Gillo on the left wing, and she drilled a three to put JC back up by four, 14-10 with just over a minute to play. Gillo turned provider, finding Steph Emert on the left wing for a long two, and Juniata led 16-11 after one.

The Eagle defense shut things down for the Greyhounds in the second quarter, as they held the visitors to 25% shooting from the floor and just eight points. Miller led the Eagles with six in the frame as Juniata went into the locker room up by 10, 29-19.

A Bodtorf pullup in the paint opened the second half scoring, and the sophomore guard followed with a three from the left wing as Juniata suddenly led by 15. The Eagles led by as many as 15 several times, but the Greyhounds wouldn't go away. Moravian got within 11 again, with a minute and a half to go in the third. Emma Coolidge caught an inbound pass from Gillo and laid it high off the glass to make it 40-27. After another stop, McCann hustled for an offensive rebound along the baseline and dropped it off to Laney Gerdich, who nailed a short jumper to push the advantage back to 15. Moravian short jumper from the left block saw JC lead by 13 heading into the final quarter.

Moravian got within eight in the final three minutes, but the Eagles made enough foul shots down the stretch to keep the visitors at bay. The Greyhounds cut the JC advantage to four in the final 23 seconds, but Gillo split a pair of foul shots for the game's final points as JC escaped with a 57-52 win. The final quarter saw the Greyhounds make JC sweat as they shot 50% from the floor, and Juniata got 11 of their 15 points from the foul line.

Juniata finishes the year 5-20.
