Sherman, Bodtorf, Coolidge Lead Eagles Over Warriors

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team earned a 71-64 win as they shot 50.0 percent from the floor Wednesday evening.

Bri Bodtorf drove from the left wing, pulled up at the left block in front of two defenders, and sunk a short jumper. The Warriors scored inside on the other end.

Several minutes later, Bodtorf scored in heavy traffic again, this time high off the glass on the right side of the paint. Laney Gerdich found Emma Coolidge cutting back door, and she laid it in with her left hand. Steph Emert, standing at the top of the key, drove left and finished off the glass to increase the lead to five, 8-3. Coolidge canned a jumper at the top of the key to push the lead to seven. JC led after one, 14-9.

The Warriors went on an 11-3 run over the first six minutes of the second quarter as the Eagles trailed by three, 20-17. On the other end, Haily Sherman bounced the ball to Gerdich on the right block, who tossed it in to bring JC back within one. Gerdich converted a jumper from the top of the key to give the Eagles the lead back. The teams traded the lead the rest of the quarter; layups from Sherman and Kynnedy Miller pushed the Eagles ahead, 27-24 heading into the locker room at the half.

An 18-point third quarter led by Sherman's seven and Bodtorf's six points had Juniata ahead by six, 45-39.

A bucket from Gerdich, a layup, and an and-one by Coolidge had the Eagles ahead by 13, 56-43, with six minutes to go in the game.

The Warriors got within five with two and half minutes remaining, but Coolidge converted another and-one, and the Eagles made their free throws to ice the win.

The Eagles will travel to take on Drew on Saturday at 4:00.
