Eagles Corralled by Colonels

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost to Wilkes, 60-52, on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

Haily Sherman totaled 14 points, six rebounds, a steal, and a block, while Bri Bodtorf tallied seven points, three rebounds, and an assist. Steph Emert added seven points, nine rebounds, three assists, and a steal off the bench.

Sherman opened the game with a pair of foul shots, the Colonels made a jumper and a layup, and Emert found Emma Coolidge for a three from the top of the key. Lanie Gerdich had the ball on the left block and lipped it to Emert, who swished a jumper. Eagles went on to lead 10-7 after one.

The Colonels took control in the second quarter as they outscored the Eagles 23-7, as JC scored one field goal and added six foul shots. Juniata trailed 30-18 at halftime.

The third quarter saw Sarah Betts tally six points and make the lone three of the third for the Eagles as JC stayed within shouting distance heading into the final quarter, 43-31.

The deficit grew to 16 before Emert found Aleya Eisenberg for a jumper, and Sherman converted a pair of foul shots. Berg took a handoff from Gerdich and splashed three from the left wing before Gerdich made a pair of her own foul shots to bring the Eagles within six with just under two minutes to go in the game. Wilkes made enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Eagles, 50-62.

Juniata returns to action this Wednesday at 7:00 to take on Lycoming.
