Young-Uhrich Wins Her 250th As Eagles Top Lancaster Bible

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team held Lancaster Bible to under 10 points in the second and fourth quarters to earn a comfortable 69-47 win against Lancaster Bible in their home opener at Memorial Gymnasium Tuesday evening.

Olivia Berg found Haily Sherman ahead of the defense for the opening bucket of the game. Laney Gerdich scored on a put-back on the next trip down the floor to double the Eagle lead. The first quarter was a high-scoring affair as seven different Eagles scored to put JC up by three after one, 21-18.

The second quarter was lower scoring, as the Eagle defense shut down the Charger offense, holding them to 12.5% shooting from the field. Sarah Betts tallied five points in the quarter for the Eagles and, in the final 10 seconds of the half, ripped down a rebound and tossed it to Berg. The sophomore guard from Johnstown, Pa., pushed the ball up the floor before she slipped a bounce pass through the defense to Bri Bodtorf. She laid it in off the glass to send JC into the half up by five, 30-25.

Kynnedy Miller started the third by forcing a turnover and laying it in on the other end. Berg scored on a layup after another stop, and a Sherman foul shot pushed the Eagle lead to 10. The Eagles led by as many as 15 during the third, but the Chargers managed to get within five by the end of the quarter, 40-35.

JC completely controlled the fourth, outscoring the visitors 24-9, as they turned over the Chargers five times and held them to 18.8% shooting from the floor.

Sherman totaled 15 points to go with five rebounds, an assist, and a block. Berg tallied 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal, while Miller amassed 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block.

The win was head coach Danny Young-Uhrich's 250th of her career.

Juniata returns to action this Saturday against Lynchburg at the Washington and Lee Invitational at 4:00.
