Wolverines Top Eagles on Day Two of the Coaches vs Cancer Classic

YORK, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on day two of the Coaches vs Cancer Classic to Grove City, 73-52, on Saturday afternoon at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.

It was an inauspicious start to the game for the Eagles as the Wolverines scored the opening 10 points over the first five minutes before Olivia Berg found Emily McCann for a three to open the scoring for JC. Grove City continued to control the quarter, with a Deja Gillo bucket off an Emelie Nonemaker assist the final bucket of the quarter as Juniata trailed 25-9 after one. The Wolverines shot 55% from the floor and forced nine Eagle turnovers to spark their big quarter.

The Wolverines continued their strong play into the second, and when the halftime horn sounded, the Eagles trailed 46-20.

Juniata outscored Grove City in the second half, 32-27, to close out the game.

Berg led the team with 10 points to go with four rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while Laney Gerdich totaled five points, 12 rebounds, and a block. Steph Emert contributed seven points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks off the bench.

Juniata will open up at home against Lancaster Bible on Tuesday at 5:00.
