Rangers Roll Past Eagles

Grace Long drills a three

MADISON, N.J.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost on the road at Drew, 80-57, Friday evening inside Baldwin Gym.

The teams traded misses over the first two and half minutes before the Rangers broke through with a putback layup. Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa. / West Perry) laid it in 30 seconds later to get the Eagles on the board and make it 2-2. The teams went back and forth, with a Jamie Mahigel (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County) put back and a Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) jumper off a pass from Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg) providing the points for the Eagles. Long's three with just over two minutes to go in the first made it 11-11, and Madison Colyer (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) split a pair of foul shots to put JC ahead. Mock found Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) for a jumper to push the Eagle advantage to three. Drew scored the final five points of the quarter, including a layup with two seconds to go in the quarter to lead 16-14 after one.

Long scored the first eight points of the second for the Eagles to try and keep pace with the Rangers, and with Hess assisting a Colyer layup to make it 29-24 with a little under four minutes to go in the half. Juniata couldn't break the seal on the hoop until Stauffer's foul shot with a second left in the half, but Drew had increased their lead to double digits as they led 36-25 heading into the locker room.

Juniata hung around for a bit in the third, but the Eagles never got within single digits the rest of the way as the Rangers cruised to an 80-57 victory.

The teams will meet again in Huntingdon on Sunday. The tipoff is at 4:00.
