Greyhounds Use Big First Half to Cruise Past Eagles

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team couldn't overcome their first-half offensive struggles as they lost at Moravian, 63-38, Saturday afternoon. 

The Greyhounds scored the first 10 points of the game before Cassidy Arnold (York, Pa. / Eastern York HS)found Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) for her first of two three-pointers on the day to get the Eagles on the board. The Greyhounds answered with a three of their own before Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa. / West Perry) scored on a putback. Moravian scored the final five points of the quarter as Juniata trailed 18-5 after one.  

Hess scored inside to score the first bucket of the second for the Eagles which made it 29-7 with under four minutes to go in the half and Cassie Mock's (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg) foul shot few possessions later made it 31-8. Madison Colyer (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) scored inside on a layup and then drilled a three off a pass from Hess with 59 seconds remaining. A Greyhound free throw was the final bucket of the half as Juniata trailed 36-13 at the half. 

Larissa Leonard (Three Springs, Pa. / Southern Huntingdon) drilled a three off a pass from Colyer; a few minutes later Leonard hit Stauffer for a three and Arnold score inside off a pass from Hess which made it 40-23 with a little under five minutes to go in the third. 

Juniata couldn't get any closer the rest of the way, as Moravian cruised to win the second meeting between the two teams. 

Juniata will play at Catholic, Wednesday at 7:00.
