Cardinals Cruise Past Eagles in D.C. For Their First Conference Loss of the Year

HUNTINGDON, Pa.-The Juniata women's basketball team could not get it going on offense as they lost at Catholic, 64-40, Wednesday evening at Franny Murray Court.  

The Cardinals scored the first eight points of the game before Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) split a pair of free throws to put the Eagles on the board. Madison Colyer (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) nailed the first field goal of the game for Juniata off a pass from Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa. / West Perry) which made it 14-4. Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) made a jumper, Stauffer and Colyer made a free throw apiece as Juniata trailed 16-8 after the opening period.  

Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg) found Larissa Leonard (Three Springs, Pa. / Southern Huntingdon) for a jumper to pull the Eagles within six thirty seconds into the half. Stauffer scored inside and Rebert made a three off a pass from Long to make it 23-15 with seven minutes to go. An Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) foul shot just with just under three minutes to go made it 31-20. The Cardinals scored the final five points of the half as they led 35-20 at halftime.  

The third quarter was all Catholic as they outscored the Eagles 19-5 as the Cardinals headed into the final period up, 54-25.  

The Eagles won the fourth 15-10, but Catholic took the game 64-40.

Juniata returns to action on the road Saturday against Moravian, Saturday at 2:00.
