Eagles Lockdown Lions for First Win of the Year

ANNVILLE, Pa.-The Juniata women's basketball team held Bryn Athyn to 15 first half points as they cruised to a 74-48 win, Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Lebanon Valley College Tip-Off at Sorrentino Gymnasium. 

Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg) got things started with a triple off a pass from Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) and Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa. / West Perry) snagged an offensive rebound and laid it in as JC went up 5-0 in the first two minutes. Stauffer scored again, this time off a pass from Madison Colyer (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) and Mock found Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) for another three as the Eagles doubled their lead. The Lions found the bottom of the net before Long converted a midrange jumper off a feed from Taylor Vrabel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg)Avery Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) snared an offensive rebound and scored inside for the final bucket for JC in the first quarter. The Eagles led 14-6 after one. 

The second quarter saw neither team shoot the ball very well as both squads shot under 30.0% from the field but the Eagles added some points from the foul line to help build their lead as they went into the locker room up 30-15. 15 points is the fewest points the Eagles have allowed in a first half this season. 

Each team had a more successful second half showing on offense but the Eagles cruised through the second half with a 44-33 advantage to win, 74-48. 

Juniata held a 54-42 advantage on the boards, forced the Lions into 26 turnovers while scoring 21 points off those turnovers, had a 22-9 advantage in second chance points and a 23-13 edge in points off the bench.  

The Eagles return to action after Thanksgiving, Monday the 26th, at 7:00.
