Women Close Regular Season with Blowout of Drew on Senior Day

Huntingdon, Pa- The Juniata women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a dominant 83-55 win over Drew, Saturday afternoon on senior day in Memorial Gymnasium. 

Dani Atkinson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had 19 points three rebounds, three assists and five steals. Morgan Instone (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCourt) tallied 19 points, six rebounds and a block. JC got some solid production of their bench as Haley Myers (Huntingdon, Pa./Juniata Valley) added nine points, Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa./South Western) and Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) each had eight while Suzy Badorf-England (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg High School) had six. Rachael Anstine (York, Pa./Dallastown) had six points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals while Veronica Cosmopolis (Lima, Peru/Colegio Carmelitas) had five points, five rebounds and four assists. Bethany Spencer (York, Pa./York Suburban) had three points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Spencer found Atkinson then Cosmopolis for layups as JC went up 4-0 in the first three minutes. Instone found Cosmopolis all on the left wing for three, Instone made a free throw and Stauffer scored inside as JC pushed the lead to 10-0. Another Stauffer lay in followed by an Anstine layup had the Eagles up 14-0. Drew made a three to get on the board, but Juniata led 14-3 after one.

Four seconds into the second Instone converted an and one and quickly followed with a layup as JC led 19-3. The Rangers scored five quick points to make it 19-8 before Instone scored inside and sunk two foul shots. A few plays later, Anstine pass from over top the defense from the foul line to Stauffer who scored while being fouled as JC went up 29-10. The Eagles led 33-15 at the half. 

Juniata caught fire in the third as they put up 28 points and their lead had expanded to 61-36 by the end of the period. Juniata coasted from there as they put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season at home.

Juniata held a 56-32 edge on the glass and had 31-6 edge in bench scoring.

Juniata finishes the regular season 21-4, with an undefeated 12-0 mark in Memorial Gymnasium and are the second seed the Landmark Conference Championships.

The Eagles will host three seed, Elizabethtown, Wednesday at 7:30 in the Landmark Conference Championship semifinal.
