Blue Jays Big First Half Dooms Eagles

Elizabethtown, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team suffered their second defeat of the season at Elizabethtown, 79-55, Wednesday evening. 

Dani Atkinson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had 19 points and five rebounds while Morgan Instone (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) had 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and six blocks. Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) added eight points and three blocks off the bench.

Instone scored the opening bucket of the game off a pass from Rachael Anstine (York, Pa./Dallastown), the Blue Jays countered with a three, Atkinson nailed a jumper and Instone scored again this time off a pass from Bethany Spencer (York, Pa./York Suburban). Another Blue Jay three made it 6-6. With four minutes to go in the quarter Atkinson scored via a layup to make it 11-8. Elizabethtown closed the quarter on a 14-2 run as they led 22-13 after one.

The Blue Jays continued their dominant run, as they carried their run into the second quarter and the 26-3 run had them up 34-14 with five minutes left in the half. Juniata continued to struggle on offense and to stop Elizabethtown and trailed 44-22 at halftime.

Juniata generated 33 points in the second half, but never got the deficit under 20 in the second half.

The Eagles return home to face Catholic, Saturday at 4:00.
