Eagles Remain Unbeaten, Win at Goucher

Towson, Md.- The Juniata women's basketball team stayed unbeaten with a 73-42 win at Goucher, Wednesday evening at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.

Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) had a season-high 22 points, 12 rebounds three steals and four blocks. Carmella Bickel (Elysburg, Pa./Lourdes Regional) had 10 points and three steals while Rachael Anstine (York, Pa./Dallastown) had nine points, eight rebounds and two steals.

A Stauffer offensive rebound and layup put the Eagles up 13-4 midway through the first as the JC took control early. A Madison Colyer (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) jumper off a pass from Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) made it 19-8 with two minutes to go, and neither team scored the rest of the way as JC led by 11 after one. 

Kaitlyn Young (Mount Ephraim, N.J./Audubon) opened the second quarter by scoring inside off an assist from Makayla Carles (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis) while being fouled. She sank the foul shot to make it 22-8. Veronica Cosmopolis (Lima Peru, Colegio Carmelitas) drilled a jumper, Anstine sunk two foul shots and Morgan Instone (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) scored off an assist from Bethany Spencer (York, Pa./York Suburban) as JC led 28-15 with 3:16 to go. The Eagles were ahead 30-17 at the half.

The Eagles went for 24 points in the third as they pushed their lead to 24, and cruised to victory the rest of the way. Juniata found their offense in the second half, after shooting below 40% in the first, they shot 47.5% from the field and made four threes' after making zero in the first half.

Juniata had a season-high 22 assists and a season-high 18 steals.

JC travels to face Drew, Saturday at 4:00.
