Juniata Takes Down Delaware Valley 63-55

THE HEADLINE: Behind Dani Atkinson and Katy Leamer's double-digit performaces, the Eagles win 63-55 at Delaware Valley to move to 2-2 in the early season.

FIRST HALF: With buckets from Kelly Leamer (Altoona, Pa./Bellwood-Antis), Anstine (York, Pa./Dallastown), Katy Leamer (Altoona, Pa./Bellwood-Antis), Bri Wasser (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and Bailey Swogger (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood-Antis), Juniata took an early 13-3 lead in the first quarter. Suzy Badorf-England (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) made her season career layup with three minutes left the second to extend JC's lead to 15-5.

Del Val regained possession on a steal with a minute and a half left, resulting in an Aggie three-pointer. Soon after, an Atkinson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) foul lead to two successful free throws. Atkinson made a jumper with 19 seconds left to end the first quarter 17-10 JC.

Halfway through the second quarter, the Aggies were just three points behind the Eagles. However, behind three-pointers by Atkinson and Sarah Sherman (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton), they were able to pull ahead to 33-23 at halftime.

SECOND HALF: The Eagles started off the second half with three three-point jumpers, one by Katy Leamer and two by Atkinson. From there, it was smooth-sailing as Juniata continued to add on and win the game 63-55.

KEY PERFORMERS: Atkinson recorded a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Katy Leamer followed Atkinson with 11 points and nine rebounds; she was six-for-six in her free throw opportunities.

OFF THE BENCH: Wasser went three-for-four in her field goal attempts and tallied six points for the Eagles.

WHAT'S NEXT?: Juniata is at Frostburg State on Monday, Nov. 28 for a 7:30 p.m. game. They will be back in Memorial Gym on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
