Complete Team Effort Leads Eagles to 53-45 Victory Over Del Val

HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 53-45 victory over the Delaware Valley Aggies Sat. afternoon.

The Eagles dominated much of the first quarter before allowing Del Val to tie the game up at 14 in the final two minutes to play. The Aggies carried their momentum into the second period and went into the half with a 27-25 lead.

"Del Val is a good team," head coach Danny Young-Uhrich said. "Their record is very deceiving. They beat Catholic in overtime. They took on an undefeated team (Rowan) and only lost by seven. This was a pretty good win for us."

Juniata came out firing in the second half and stole the momentum from Del Val. At the end of three, JC was up 41-34.

The Aggies didn't back down and played hard in the fourth quarter but the Eagles would ultimately take the victory 53-45.

Juniata held the advantage in points off turnovers (10-4), second chance points (11-7) and points off the bench (18-4).

Katy Leamer (Altoona, PA / Bellwood-Antis) led the offensive effort with 12 points off the bench. Maria Photiades (Abottstown, PA / Delone Catholic) followed with 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Natalie Hager (Franklin, PA / Franklin) and Rachael Anstine (York, PA / Dallastown) each picked up nine rebounds. Hager finished with seven points and Anstine with nine, along with three blocked shots.

Dani Atkinson (Lancaster, PA / Lancaster Catholic) rounded out the offensive effort with nine points.  She also picked up four steals.

Juniata returns home for their 10th Annual Holiday Tournament Dec. 30-31. They will play six games over 11 days, including three Landmark Conference matchups.

First up in the six-game stretch is Alfred University at 4pm Dec. 30.
