HUNTINGDON, Pa., Juniata College women's basketball will host the visiting Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy (3-5, 2-1 CSAC) on Saturday, December 20th in Memorial Gymnasium. The two teams will tip-off at 2pm. It will be Community Day at the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center and general admission to the contest will be free of charge for the public.
The Eagles are led by co-team captain Kelsey Livoti (Altoona, PA / Bishop Guilfoyle) and junior Natalie Hager (Franklin, PA / Franklin). Livoti leads Juniata with 12.9 points per game and a 44.3 shooting percentage. Hager is nearly averaging a double-double this season with 8.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. The junior's 55 rebounds and 20 steals lead the Blue and Gold.
Natasha Matthews has been a big threat for the Griffins on the court. This season, the senior is averaging 11.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The forward also owns four blocks and 9 steals. She has started all eight games for Gwynedd Mercy, averaging just under 28 minutes in the floor.
The Eagles and Griffins will face off for the eighth time in Juniata history. The two programs began competing against each other during the 2002-03 season, with the Blue and Gold earning a 64-47 victory. The Eagles defeated Gwynedd Mercy 86-81 in the previous meeting on November 23, 2013.
Juniata is 1-7 (0-2 Landmark) on the season. The Eagles will look to get back in the win column before they host the Apprentice School, Heidelberg University, and Widener University in their 9th annual Holiday Tournament hosted by Comfort Inn.
