Juniata Bounces Back with 73-63 Win on Road

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Juniata College women's basketball team snapped a five-game skid by defeating Oswego State 73-63 Saturday afternoon in day two of the New York University Holiday Tournament.  Juniata (6-5) had three finish in double-figure points.  Oswego St. moved to 4-5 overall with the loss.

 

Sophomore Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) had another breakout performance.  She put up a game-high 23 points, just one off her career mark, making a career-best 10 field goals.  Senior Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) earned her eighth double-double of the season by dropping 16 points and grabbing a career-tying 19 boards.  Also finishing with 16 points was junior Kelsey Livoti (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle).  She made 6-of-13 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line.

 

The game was tied five times before the Eagles started to pull away in the first half.  They went into the break ahead 37-26 after outrebounding the Lakers and scoring 10 points off Oswego's 12 turnovers.  Juniata led by as many as 16 in the second half and didn't allow Oswego closer than seven points down the stretch to pick up the win.

 

Juniata remains on the road for its next contest.  The Eagles face Wilkes University on Monday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.  They are 19-11 all-time against the Colonels, having won the last four straight contests in Huntingdon.  Wilkes has lost seven of its last eight games.  They are led this season by junior Elena Stambone. The guard is averaging over 20 points per game and has a team-high 304 minutes of game time.
