HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College women's basketball team set a school record for scoring when it routed Frostburg State University 111-58 in its home opener at the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center Wednesday night. The previous record of 104 was set back in 1980. Head coach Danny Young-Uhrich played on the last team to hit triple digits in 1997. Juniata improved to 3-0 with the win.
"It was good to get everyone in today," said Young-Uhrich. "Our playbook isn't stacked with a bunch of plays. We just teach the girls they play and they did. With what we got out of transition is really reflective of what offensive ability this team has."
Junior Kelsey Livoti (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and sophomore Paige Dennison (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) each scored career-highs in the win dropping 27 and 20 points, respectively. Livoti went 10-for-12 from the floor with eight rebounds and a career-high four steals. Dennison also earned a career-high eight assists and three steals.
"I think more importantly than her shooting effort, we know she can score, it's about her complete game," Young-Uhrich said of Livoti. "So the eight boards and four steals and three assists is what matters to us. And Paige's eight assists to two turnovers is something, especially after Messiah. Those are the numbers we are working on."
Three other Eagles put up double-figure point performances. Seniors Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) and Jordan Hileman (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) tallied 17 and 11, respectively, while junior Emily Fox (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) scored a career-best 10 points.
This was the fewest points the Eagles have allowed since this past February. They shot 59-percent from the floor as a team and outrebounded the Bobcats 37-29. Frostburg fell to 0-3 with the loss.
Juniata hits the road next to face Gwynedd-Mercy this Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. They are 3-3 all-time against the Griffins. Juniata has won both of the last two meetings of the two programs.
