Double-Header Opens Home Conference Play Saturday

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The first basketball double-header of 2013 opens home Landmark Conference play for Juniata. Both the men and women's teams will face-off against the University of Scranton this Saturday, Jan. 5.  The women (9-3) open the day at 2 p.m. with the men (8-4) following at 4 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast online with live video and radio play-by-play from Jim Zauzig.  Eagle fans can also track the games via live stats.  Video and live stats are available at juniatasports.net.

Women's Preview
This is the 36th meeting all-time for the women since the programs began competing in 1976.  Juniata trails the all-time series, but has seen success under Head Coach Danny Young-Uhrich in recent years.  Since taking the helm, Young-Uhrich has led the Eagles to a 3-3 home record against Scranton and are currently on a five-game win streak against the Lady Royals that dates back to the 2010-11 season.  Juniata has defeated Scranton by an average 15-point margin during the streak.

The Eagles are picking up speed after having a 22-game home win streak snapped back in December.  Since the losses, they have won three-in-a-row averaging 78 points with a win margin of more than 30 points per game.  Juniata has shot 42-percent from the floor and 89 percent from the free throw line as a team during the streak.  They also outrebounded opponents 126-94 and boast a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Men's Preview
This 46th meeting of the men's programs will be a rematch of last year's conference championship. Scranton edged past the Eagles, 78-70, in a contest that had 13 lead changes and 10 ties. The Royals lead the all-time series, but Juniata is 4-1 when facing Scranton in Memorial Gymnasium under Head Coach Greg Curley.

This season, Juniata is undefeated (6-0) at home.  The Eagles went 3-2 in December and are looking for a fresh start in the New Year after dropping both contests at the St. John Fisher holiday tournament to end 2012. The home court advantage may be just what the Eagles need.  They have averaged 68 points per game at home and are 7-2 this season when scoring over 60 points.
