BETHLEHEM, Pa. – No. 24 Juniata (4-1, 0-1 Landmark) could not overcome a first half deficit and dropped its first game of the season on the road to Landmark Conference rival Moravian College, 84-72, Saturday afternoon. Juniata pulled to within two in the second half, but the Greyhounds (6-0, 1-0 Landmark) pushed the lead back out to 10 and held on for dear life.
Senior Jordan Speck (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) led all scorers with a season-high 21 points. She shot 46-percent from the floor and went 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Other Eagles in double-digits were sophomore Kelsey Livoti (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) and junior Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./ State College). Livoti scored a career-high 12 points in 22 minutes of play. McDonald, who went into the half with only two points after being held scoreless for over 17 minutes, earned her fifth double-double of the year with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Moravian saw three Greyhounds hit double-digits in points and was led by Alexis Wright. She finished with a team-high 20 points and game-high 19 rebounds.
Juniata continues its road trip at DeSales this Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. This is only the third meeting of the two programs who began competing in the 2009-10 season. The all-time series is tied 1-1 with the Eagles taking the last contest 59-43 at DeSales.
