Bankos and McDonald earn D3hoops.com honors

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College senior Ashton Bankos was named the 2011-12 D3hoops.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region Player of Year, while sophomore Kate McDonald earned a second team selection, announced Monday.

Being all-region honorees, both Bankos, who was also a first team selection, and McDonald become candidates for the D3hoops.com All-America teams to be announced Saturday, March 20.

During the 2011-12 season Bankos became the first player in Juniata history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, combined with over 700 rebounds and 400 assists. Bankos led Juniata with 13.1 ppg, the fifth highest in the Landmark Conference, while logging 381 points over her senior season. For her standout performances throughout the season, Bankos was crowned the Landmark Conference's Player of the Year while also being a first team honoree.

McDonald also earned Landmark Conference end of the season honors as she was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year. McDonald was first in the conference in rebounding with an average 9.4 boards per contest and pulled down a stellar 262 rebounds over her sophomore season. McDonald led the Eagles in blocks with 25 and averaged 2.7 steals per game. She was also 35th in the all of D-III in double doubles with 13, including one in each of Juniata's NCAA 1st/2nd Round games against Castleton State and York College. 

Across D3hoops.com's eight national regions, the institutions' Sports Information Directors nominated 683 men and women's basketball players.
