Women’s hoops hands Goucher 75-49 loss

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College women's basketball not only kept its undefeated conference streak alive but they also kept its undefeated 10-0 all-time record against Goucher College alive with a 75-49 win over the Gophers Saturday night at Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center.

The Eagles started out a little rocky allowing Goucher to jump out to a 7-0 lead, but a junior Alyssia Gordon (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) 3-pointer got the ball rolling for Juniata. Juniata took the lead for good off a Gordon jumper to make the score 10-9 just six minutes into the match. From there Juniata went on an 18-4 run on the Gophers that lasted nearly eight minutes.

Juniata headed into the locker rooms holding a substantial 32-17 lead, but the Eagles weren't finished and opened the second stanza with a bang. Juniata went on a 16-9 scoring spree in the first eight minutes of the second half. Seniors Meagan Raville (McSherrystown, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Ashton Bankos (York, Pa./York Catholic) did the majority of the scoring during the run with Raville draining seven, a layup, jumper and trey combo, and Bankos netting five with a 3-pointer and layup.

Juniata's lead peaked at 28 points with the score at 69-41 off a Raville 3-pointer with just 3:30 left on the game clock.

It was all too fitting for Raville and Bankos to be Juniata's high scorers, as this was their senior day and last regular season home game to be played at Kennedy S+RC. Raville finished the night with a game high 17 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field and 2-of-8 from 3-point land. Bankos wasn't far behind with 15 points, going 6-of-8 from the field and draining her only 3-point attempt.

Sophomore Jordan Hileman (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg) also reached double-digits with 11 points, while also swiping three steals as part of Juniata's 12-steal effort. Sophomore Kate McDonald (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) tallied eight points and led the Eagles off the glass with eight rebounds.

Juniata turned out a much improved .448 shooting percentage from the field as well as a 6-of-25 effort from 3-point range and a 9-of-10 performance from the charity stripe.

The Eagles have one more regular season game ahead of them before heading into the postseason. Juniata will travel to Susquehanna University on Saturday, Feb. 18 for a 5:30 p.m. contest to close out Landmark Conference play.
