Juniata women’s basketball earns ECAC South Region tourney berth; will face DelVal in quarterfinals

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College women's basketball team will have a chance to repeat its post-season magic of a year ago after earning a berth in the 2010 ECAC Division III South Region Tournament.

The field for the eight-team ECAC South tourney was unveiled on Monday afternoon, with Juniata (15-11, 9-5 Landmark) slotted as the no. 8 seed.

The Eagles will open their ECAC South title defense by traveling to Doylestown, Pa., on Wednesday, March 3, to take on no. 1 seed Delaware Valley College (17-9, 9-5 Freedom) in the quarterfinal round. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the James Work Gymnasium.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.

The rest of the ECAC South Region field has no. 2 Saint Vincent College (20-5) hosting no. 7 University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg (17-9), no. 3 Wesley College (17-10) hosting no. 6 Alvernia University (16-9) and no. 4 Widener University (15-11) hosting no. 5 Gywnedd-Mercy College (17-9).

Juniata will be making its third straight post-season appearance, after winning the 2009 ECAC South Region Tournament and receiving a "Pool B" berth in the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The Eagles advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Tournament, where they dropped a 70-62 decision to no. 17 University of Scranton.

The Aggies will be making their eighth overall appearance in the ECAC Championships, but their first since 2002. Top-seeded Delaware Valley claimed the ECAC South title in 1989 and 2001.

The semifinals and finals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 6 and 7 at the highest remaining seed after Wednesday's quarterfinals.
