Softball Takes Two From Mounties

Softball Takes Two From Mounties

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team opened up West End Field plat with a pair of wins, topping Mount Aloysius twice, 15-7 and 4-3, Wednesday afternoon.

In game one, the Eagle offense was cooking as eight Eagles had a hit, five had multiple hits, and two went 4-5. Alex Douglass led the way as she went 4-5 with two RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs scored. Alison Superka was the other 4-5 batter with four RBI, two doubles, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Kassandra Roush went 2-3 with two walks, two RBI, a double, and three runs scored. Dani Berlin went 2-4 with three RBI, a triple and a run scored. Claire Thomas was 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI.

The Mounties struck first as they scored three runs on five hits, with four straight doubles as they jumped ahead. A Superka double plated Douglass and K. Roush, and later in the first, Thomas tied things on a groundout to short, scoring Superka from third. The teams were once again tied.

RBI doubles from Superka and Kay Magill, along with a base-clearing triple to right by Berlin, saw JC score five runs in the third.

Two runs in the fourth from the visitors cut the lead to three, but RBIs from K. Roush (double to left) and Superka (single to left) pushed the lead back to five in the fifth.

Mount Aloysius got within three, scoring two more in the top half of the sixth, but Juniata ended the game with five runs, and Hunt's ground out to second scored K. Roush to end the game.

Gracie Ruch got the win in game one for the Eagles, going 6.0 innings and allowing seven runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Game two was a lower-scoring one, but Juniata again scored runs in the first. K. Roush led off with a single to right, advanced to second on Douglass's groundout, and Superka was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Morgan Brumbaugh smashed a ball over the fence in left to put JC up 3-0.

The Mounties got one back in the second, but Lexi Roush's RBI single scored Reagan Goldsmith to push the lead back to three. Kenzie Tapias was cruising early and escaped some trouble in the sixth. In the seventh, she got the first out before Isabella Countryman entered to get the save and the final two outs. Tapias went 6.1 innings while allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks.

Brumbaugh was 1-3 in game two with the homer, three RBI and a run scored while L. Roush was 2-3 with an RBI.

Juniata will host Drew in Landmark Conference action this Saturday beginning at 1 pm.
