Softball Drops to the Belles in Extras, Falls to Fords on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Juniata softball team dropped the final games of its spring break trip Friday afternoon, falling in extra innings to St. Mary's (Ind.) 5-4 and 14-10 to Haverford.

In the third inning of the first game against St. Mary's, Kay Magill singled to right, Ashley Cheung came in to pinch run and went first to third on a sac bunt by Kassandra Roush. Caleigh Love drove her in with a sacrifice fly to left.

K. Roush drove in Dani Berlin in the fourth to double the Eagle lead.

The Belles scored three runs on two hits and an error, with Gracie Ruch getting the final out with the bases loaded.

Emily Eutsey's two-run single in the fifth pushed Juniata ahead, but the lead was short-lived.

St. Mary's tied the game in the sixth, and the teams were even after seven, so the game went to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Ashley Robuck put down a sac bunt to push Dani Berlin to third, but JC couldn't get the run across. The Belles drove the winning run in on the second batter with an RBI through the right side.

Eutsey went two for four with two RBIs, K. Roush was two for four with an RBI, and Jessie Hunt was two for four with a stolen base and a run scored.

In the second game of the day, the Ford's offense exploded for four runs through the first four innings as Juniata found themselves trailing 8-0.

Juniata responded, scoring eight runs on four hits and two errors in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 8-8.

Haverford tacked on five in the top of the fifth on four hits, along with an error.

The Fords added one in the sixth, and Hunt drove in a pair of runs with a double to left, but Juniata couldn't close the gap and lost 14-10.

Alison Superka went three for four with a double, an RBI, and a run scored, while Hunt went one for four with two RBI and a double.

The Eagles will return to action in Pa. with a doubleheader at St. Vincent on Wednesday at 3:00.
