Eagles Top Quakers, Burned by Bombers

Eagles Top Quakers, Burned by Bombers

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Juniata softball team earned their fourth split of their Florida trip, defeating Earlham 7-6 before losing to Ithaca 6-0 Thursday afternoon.

The Quakers opened the scoring on an RBI double to left center in the bottom of the first.

The pitchers and the defenses took control as they traded zeros until the top of the fifth. Kassandra Roush started with a single down the right field line, and Alison Superka singled through the left side. Chelsea Williams came in to pinch run for Superka, Jessie Hunt singled up the middle. An error by the center fielder allowed Roush to score, Williams to get to third, and put Hunt on second. Claire Thomas walked to load the bases, and Morgan Brumbaugh tripled down the right-field line to give Juniata the lead. Lexi Roush made it 6-1 with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Eagles added two more in the sixth on RBIs from K. Roush and later in the inning, a sac fly from Thomas sending her home.

The Quakers had a big bottom half of the sixth as they scored four runs on six hits, along with a JC error.

Maryn Swank entered with the bases load in the ninth and got the three outs the Eagles needed to get the win.

Juniata will take on St. Mary's for the second time at 4:15 tomorrow and close their trip against Haverford at 6:15.
