HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped two games to visiting Scranton, 7-0 and 9-0, on a sunny Saturday afternoon at West End Field.
The teams traded zeros through the first four innings, with Cate Baran (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone Area HS) stranding Royal runners on the bases in three out of the four innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, with two outs, Alison Superka (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland HS) singled to left, and Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) walked, but JC couldn't push any runs across.
Scranton tallied four runs in the fifth, on a three-run homer to left and a solo homer two batters later made it 5-0. They struck for three more runs in the seventh to make it 7-0.
Game two saw the Royals score a single run in the first, third, and fourth innings to make it 3-0.
Scranton added three more runs in the fifth and seventh innings to make it 9-0.
JC had their best opportunity to score in the second when Miller drew a one-out walk, and Caleigh Love (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury HS) singled up the middle. But the next two batters fouled out to third and lined out to short to end the inning.
The Eagles will travel to Scranton tomorrow for the final two games of the regular season. The first pitch is at 1:00.
