No. 19 Greyhounds Narrowly Top Eagles in First Two Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata softball team opened up their season on the road at #19 Moravian, falling 2-1 and 5-3 in a Landmark Conference doubleheader.

Moravian took the lead in the bottom of the second and then extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth inning. The Eagles got on the board in the top of the sixth to make the score, 2-1. Maggie Peck (Philipsburg, Pa. / Philipsburg Osceola) singled to third base. Maya McLeod (San Diego, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day School) then singled up the middle to advance Peck to second. With a ground out to the shortstop, McLeod and Peck were able to advance. Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) singled to right field which brought Peck home. 

In game two, the Eagles struck first in the top of the second with a home run to left center by Alison Superka (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland HS). The Greyhounds really got things going in the third as they scored the next four runs to take the lead, 4-1. Juniata then cut the Greyhounds lead to 4-3 in the fourth inning. To start off the fourth, Reagan Goldsmith (Middletown, Del. / Middletown) reached first on a fielding error by the pitcher. McLeod then hit a two-run homer to bring in Goldsmith as well. The Greyhounds then scored one in the bottom of the fifth to seal the 5-3 win. 

Juniata returns to the field tomorrow as they host Moravian for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM.
