Eagles Fall in St. Vincent Doubleheader

LATROBE, Pa.- The Juniata softball team fell, 3-0 at St. Vincent in game one and the Eagle's comeback in game two fell short resulting in JC falling, 7-6 to the Bearcats. 

Erin Pfeffer (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity High School) took the mound in game one and went 6.0 innings while allowing eight hits and striking out five. Pfeffer allowed one hit and struckout two in the first. The Eagles ran into trouble in the second as the Bearcats totaled three hits, a walk, and three runs scored. Juniata couldn't get it together as they added just four more hits after the second inning. St. Vincent took game one, 3-0. 

Game two saw the Eagles start off strong but their comeback against the Bearcats fell short resulting in a 7-6 loss. Abby Ebright (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East HS) reached first on a fielder's choice then Ebright reached second on a wild pitch. Ashley Clark (Saxton, Pa. / Tussey Mountain) doubed to left field advancing Ebright across home plate. Maya McLeod (San Diego, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day School) singled to right field and Clark advanced to third then ran home on a throwing error by the right fielder. After the first, Juniata led St. Vincent, 2-0. 

Juniata held their, 2-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth when St. Vincent added four runs to take the lead. The Eagles sought to take back the lead as they scored another run in the fifth to be down by one. Clark started off the inning with a walk to first. McLeod reached first on a fielder's choice and Clark advanced to second on a throwing error by the shortstop, then advanced to third. McLeod advanced to second on a ground out to first base. Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) singled to third base advancing McLeod to third and Clark home. 

St. Vincent grabbed two more runs in the fifth to extend their lead, 6-3. Juniata then tied up the game, 6-6 in the top of the sixth. Alyssa "Sheddy" Shedlock (State College, Pa. / State College) singled to right field. Ebright reached first on a fielder's choice and Shedlock advanced on throwing error by the second basewoman. Maggie Peck then doubled to center field, advancing Ebright and Shedlock. The Eagles added another double as Clark doubled to the left center allowing Peck and Ebright to cross home. The Bearcats finished off the game by tacking on one more run in sixth to take the win, 7-6. 

In game two, Clark went 3-3 with three RBI, and two runs scored. Shedlock went 4-4 with one run scored. 

The Eagles will host Scranton, Saturday to open up conference play. Game one is set to start at 1:00PM.
